This article outlines the regional co-operative measures developed by the Pacific Island States and Territories and examines the challenges they face in the sustainable development of tuna resources in the region in light of emerging international obligation on coastal States to co-operate with distant water fishing nations in the management and conservation of the tuna resource under the United Nations Agreement on Straddling Stocks and Highly Migratory Fish Stocks (UN Agreement). |
