This chapter analyses the motivations and trends of japanese foreign direct investment (FDI) in Asia with a focus on the strategies implemented by japanese firms. In section II, the author assessed various patterns in japanese FDI by splitting the analysis into pre- and postcrisis periods. In sections III and IV, he examines the motives of japanese FDI in Asia and the problems japanese firms face in Asia respectively. Section V covers the impact of the crisis on the business strategies of japanese firms, while section VI focuses on their future FDI plans. Section VII examines Japan’s trade with Asia and finally section VIII presents some concluding remarks. |
