This chapter describes and analyses the bases of the japanese chemical industry’s strategic adaptation to market and nonmarket factors such as government regulations and bank support have played a more important role than market factors in determining the strategy of Japanese chemical companies in Asia. Indeed, at certain times nonmarket factors were key in triggering strategic changes in the chemical industry. Then the analysis has focused on Mitsubishi chemical as a representative example of Japanese chemical companies to illustrate the impact of nonmarket and market factors on the operations of a specific company. |
