Résumé : |
People have hunted widlife ever since they inhabited tropical forests, so the International Community fas responded to the steady loss of tropical forests by adopting policies that promote sustainable use of such forests as a conservation tool. Given the pace of change in tropical forest countries, a wide range of solutions is needes and these include the establishment and effective management of forests and widlife at national and local levels. As the rate of forest loss increases, proper land use planning is essential to ensure that protected areas and extractive reserves are included as part of a sustainable landscape.
The problem of hunting is multi-faceted and complex. Solutions must be area specific and based on detailed knowledge of hunting patterns, ecology and hunted species and local cultural, economic and political conditions. This paper offers a set of recommendations to different players at national and local levels to promote the sustainability of hunting and provide ecological, socioeconomic and cultural benefits. |
