REDUCED EMISSIONS FROM DEFORESTATION AND DEGRADATION (REDD+) EMISSION DE CARBONE POLITIQUE DE L'ENVIRONNEMENT FORESTERIE CONSERVATION DE LA NATURE |
| Résumé : |
There is unprecedented global recognition of the urgent need to reduce rates of deforestation and forest degradation to help avert dangerous levels of climate change. Nowadays, it is crucial to reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation and the need to enhance removals of greenhouse gas emissions. An urgent need for detailed guidance on how to design and implement field activities that achieve emissions reductions is on the way proposed by the Copenhagen Accord in 2009.
In order to provide preliminary insights into what is needed to make REDD+ work on the ground, some experiences are headed of 12 pilot forest initiatives in nine countries, in which Conservation International (CI) has been involved as a partner. The focus of the analysis is based on 5 issues, first creating effective on-the-ground partnerships and capacity, then ensuring that forest carbon initiatives are backed by rigorous technical and scientific analyses, thus attracting the needed financial resources for development, then engaging stakeholders in project design and implementation and finally ensuring active government support to field activities.
For each of the five issues, the document provides an overview of how the forest carbon initiatives have dealt with these issues and highlight the challenges and opportunities encountered from the perspective of the project managers and partners involved. |
