Résumé : |
This chapter examines the various controversies that have involved the Three Gorges Dam in regard to the overall compatibility of this project with the goals and parameters of sustainable development. Specifically, it will summarize the contending positions of dam supporters and opponents in China over two key components of the sustainable development model mentioned above : land usage and popular input. To be sure, in China’s media this has been a one-sided debate, since the government will allow only positive reporting about the dam. Despite such authoritarian structures-which at first glance violate the concept of popular input-dam critics in and outside the Chinese government have made their views known. |
