Major releases of NDMA have been from the manufacture of pesticides, rubber tires, alkylamines and dyes. NDMA may also form under natural conditions in air, water and soil as a result of chemical, photochemical and biological processes and has been detected in drinking-water and in automobile exhaust.
Photolysis is the major pathway for the removal of NDMA from surface water, air and land. However, in surface waters with high concentrations of organic substances and suspended matter, photodegradation is much slower. In subsurface water and in soil, biodegradation is the removal pathway of importance. NDMA is ulikely to be transported over long distances in air or to partition to soil and sediments. Because of its solubility and low partition coefficient, NDMA has the potential to leach into and persist in groundwater. It is metabolized and does not bioaccumulate. NDMA is not detectable in surface waters, except for localized contamination from industrial sites, where end-of-pipe effluent concentrations as high as 0.266µg/litre hve been measured.
Acute and chronic toxicity data are available for aquatic organisms. The toxic effect that occured at lowest concentration was a reduction in the growth of algae at 4000µg/litre. In the sample risk of characterization, concentrations of NDMA in surface waters in the source country are less than the threshold for adverse effects estimated for aquatic organisms. Data on concentrations of NDMA in sediments or in soil in the sample country were not identified.

L'objectif est de déterminer les facteurs associés aux intoxications accidentelles chez l'enfant au Service de Pédiatrie du CHU PZAGA de Mahajanga.
Une étude rétrospective descriptive et analytique de type cas témoins a été menée sur une période de 4 ans allant du 01 Janvier 2018 au 31 Décembre 2021. 66 cas d'enfants admis pour une intoxication accidentelle ont été inclus, appariés selon l'âge et le genre à 66 témoins admis pour d'autres motifs.
L'intoxication touche les enfants de moins de 5 ans avec une prédominance masculine et l'intoxication non médicamenteuse est la plus fréquente (59,09%). La symptomatologie est dominée par les signes digestifs (54,55%). Un traitement symptomatique a été instauré en première ligne et l'évolution est favorable dans 93,94% avec un taux de mortalité de 1,52%.
La profession des parents et leur faible niveau d'instruction, une fratrie de 3 ou plus (p=0,03), un trouble psychologique dans la famille (p=0,03), l'autoréférence (p<0,001) et une durée d'hospitalisation de 2 jours ou moins (p<0,001) ont été identifiés comme facteurs associés aux intoxications accidentelles chez l'enfant.

Rice-fish farming systems hence represent an ideal practice for more efficient utilization of agricultural resources in lowland rice areas. The use of pesticides has been reported to have caused a decline in the practice of rice-fish culture in some parts of the Central Thailand. In the Philippines, some farmers reported detrimental effects of pesticides to fish, but no data is available to substantiate such claims. While potentials include good financial incentives, constraints range from lack of inputs and demand for fish to heavy use of agrochemicals especially pesticides. Among the asian countries reviewed, Korea, Malaysia and the Philippines are reported to heavy users of agricultural pesticides. The two main constraints to increased productivity in irrigated rice-fish farming systems however, are water control and pesticide use, the latter is considered as the more serious constraint because it can be justified in areas where potential rice yields are also high.
Since fish must adapt to management practices for rice, information on toxicity, degradation and residues of pesticides in fish are imperative for the development of a better symbiotic relationship between rice and fish in an integrated farming system.
