Small farms are where agricultural advances are nurtured and new ideas are conceived every day by the folks who are solving nature’s puzzles. Since the author turned in the original manuscript for this book, he traveled to Europe to see what was new there and spent time with organic growers in Australia and continued to develop and refine his thinking. So he has benefited from the suggestions of those who read the book and wanted more information on certain subjects or wanted data on areas he didn’t cover.
The revisions run the gamut from small changes in detail, to adding a lot of new material to some chapters, to adding whole new chapters where appropriate. He has added scientific references in footnotes for readers who wish to pursue a particular subject in greater depth.
To put it blently, this book aims at making available innovative tools and equipment that would bring the joys and rewards of gardening to as many people as possible. It also serves gardeners of all interests and abilities with seasonal catalogs that offer earth-friendly methods for growing plants in all climate zones and seasons.
In order to further its mission as the leading source of new ideas and information for gardeners, this book is written by pioneering individuals who have firsthand experience in using innovative, ecological techniques to grow healthy food and flowers that enhance our lives and the well-being of Earth.
