An equivalent formulation involving the characteristic function of an unknown domain is introduced. The semidiscretization in time of the new formulation leads to an optimization problem involving the sign of an unknown function and suggests a numerical method based on the determination of the unknown domain by optimization methods. Numerical experiments show that this method is effective to calculate. The basic idea has been the transformation of the system of conservation laws with source terms in a homogenous system. The proposed scheme recognizes stationary solutions of the non-homogenous system. Numerical results are presented to demonstrate the performance of the described scheme. For the analysed configuration, results show that : (1) prominent parameter effects are found to be strongly influenced by the exchanged heat flows ; (2) depending on the nature of the materials and their thermal properties (thermal resistivity, storage capabilities…) thermophysical parameter effects have characteristic time evolutions ; (3) the influential parameters ( with respect to the inner air temperature) are all related to the building components hanving the largest heat exchange with the air cell. Titre : Elliptic predictions of heated turbulent jets using advanced turbulence closures Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : M. El Hayek, Auteur ; J. Henriette, Auteur Importance : p 27-34 Langues : Français (fre) Catégories : MATHEMATIQUE-PHYSIQUE-CHIMIE Résumé : The present investigation deals with the application of advanced Reynolds stress closures to the calculation of non-isothermal jet phenomena. A new scalar second order model based on scalar turbulent scales is proposed. Instead of the classical analogy concept between the mechanical and the scalar transport mechanisms, a new scalar time scale, defined as the ratio of the temperature variance and its rate of dissipation or scalar dissipation or scalar dissipation, is used to close the system. This new model is compared with both the standard RSM model and an advanced cubic version. Comparison with experimental data is also performed and shows some promising features.

A gray absorbing, emitting and anisotropically scattering medium is enclosed in cavities of regular and complex geometry. The phase function is approximated by a finite series of Legendre polynomials. The key feature of the new technique is the utilization of general characteristic equations which replace the classical spatial differencing schemes and makes possible the use of triangular grids which can be fitted to any geometrical enclosure. An assessment of the method is given by comparing the results with those obtained by other authors . The method proves to be general and accurate.

The criterion gradient, which is the basic information required by the optimization algorithm, as well as the sensitivity functions are computed using direct differentiation. A procedure for determining optimal experimental conditions based on a « measure of independence » of the sensitivity functions, e.g. the Gram determinant is developed. The purpose of the present work is to compare the scale model behaviour to detailed models coupled by non-linear or linear heat transfers laws. The reduction technique used here consists in linear and invariant system truncation in the eigenmodes space according to energetic criteria. It has been applied in several ways for reduction of large dynamical systems.

Solving the IHCP is viewed as a filter design problem in which the reconstructed heat flux is obtained by lowpass-filtering of the true heat flux. The method operates on the one-dimensional , transient differential equation for spherical particles with heat and mass transfer at the particle surface. Thus, this method covers a large range of combustion modes, exceeding the the validity of the shrinking and reacting core models. Furthermore, an additionnal novelty of the approach is to include conservation laws for morphological parameters such as inner surface and porosity.

The horizontal side-walls are impermeable and adiabatic while the vertical ones are subjected to constant heat and mass fluxes. In this study, we assume that the ratio N of solutal to thermal Grashof numbers is equal to -1. We perform , by the means of the Galerkin method, the linear stability analysis of the purely diffusive solution. The onset of convection is also numerically studied using a spectral method. It is found that, in a square bounded cavity, the purely diffusive solution becomes unstable for Rat/Le-1/=19726 for constant fluxes boundary conditions (Newman boundary conditions) while it is shown to be Rat/Le-1/=17174 for Dirichlet vertical boundary conditions. Direct numerical simulations confirm the over-mentioned results and point out the existence of a subscribal regime for a Rayleigh number which is six times smaller than the critical Rayleigh number Numéro du document : A 7482/PHY Niveau Bibliographique : 2 Bull1 (Theme principale) : PHYSIQUE Bull2 (Theme secondaire) : THERMIQUE Stability of double-diffusive convection in a rectangular cavity with constant heat and mass fluxes along the vertical side-walls [texte imprimé] / K. A decomposition into subsystems and processes is given and discussed. The « Prosim modelling language », a combined discrete-continuous modelling language, is used for implementation in order to handle the aspects of state events, variable number of differential equations , varying the order of the differential equations due to changing causality during the simulation and automated switching between the numerous possible model structures. Numerical simulation results are given in order to show the discontinuous dynamically behaviour. Titre : The use of reduced models to solve inverse heat transfer problems Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : E. Videcoq, Auteur ; D. Petit, Auteur ; H. Sadat, Auteur Importance : p 125-132 Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : MATHEMATIQUE-PHYSIQUE-CHIMIE Mots-clés : TRANSFERT DE CHALEUR MODELISATION REDUITE Résumé : In the case of a large system, the numerical modelling of the transient diffusion equation leads to a vector differnetial equation of large size. In order to treat Inverse Heat Conduction Problems (IHCP), such as the identification of thermal stimulations from measured temperatures, the use of this type of model is very difficult . Here, we propose an original way for IHCP, by using a Reduced Model (RM) which retains in a simple and stable way, the relations between the thermal inputs and outputs that are observed. This RM, built with dominant eigenmodes, acts as a filter in high frequencies and leads to a precise and well-conditioned algorithm when future time steps are added.

We show here how the Eitelberg reduction technique applied to a detailed nodal model can provide answers in this context. Afterwards, the reduced model is used to solve an original inverse problem consisting in finding again several, widely distributed heat generations through temperature measurements. Grossel, Auteur Importance : p159-166 Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : MATHEMATIQUE-PHYSIQUE-CHIMIE Mots-clés : METHODE RECURSIVE TRANSFERT DE CHALEUR Résumé : This note presents a possibility to resolve the heat diffusion equation with non-constant thermal coefficients and with source in the multilayer. The thermal response is analyzed from generalized reflection coefficients of thermal waves. These coefficients are evaluated at each interface. The set of expressions provides a recursive approach. This modelling is used to study the thermal behaviour of a near-field probe whose influence of the sample surface is treated by introducing a thermal coupling coefficient. Titre : Thermomechanical modelling by harmonic response functions Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Y. Gillet, Auteur ; S. Offermann, Auteur Langues : Français (fre) Catégories : MATHEMATIQUE-PHYSIQUE-CHIMIE Mots-clés : MODELISATION THERMOMECANIQUE TRANSFERT DE CHALEUR Résumé : Integral methods yield convenient tools to deal with inhomogeneous problems. In a similar way to the Green’s fucntions in time-dependent problems, the harmonic response functions are more well suited to calculate the temperature or displacement distributions induced by harmonic source fields of any spatial distribution. The present paper describes two aspects of thermomechanical couplings. The first application deals with scanning electron accoustic microscopy. The second one consists in thermoelastic stress analysis by means of radiometry.
